Grilled Brussel Sprouts vs Blanched Brussel Sprouts
Smoky Crisp Brussel Sprouts sound so much more appealing than mushy lacking flavor boiled Brussel Sprouts. Brussel sprouts are a very dense vegetable that need to be softened up. However, blanching or boiling usually lead to overcooking.
Do you need to boil Brussel Sprouts before grilling ?
No, boiling or blanching Brussel Sprouts is not necessary. As long as you control the temp and flame on your grill you can roast the Brussel Sprouts on the grill just as you would in an oven. Blanching does not add to the flavor to the vegetables. Some may argue that blanching or steaming is necessary because the sprouts need too long on the grill and will eventually burn. However, if you start with a clean grill and use indirect heat blanching is you will find nice grill marks are the perfect compliment to this side dish.
To prepare the Brussel Sprouts put a pound in a mixing bowl. For this recipe I add a little rosemary oil and salt. Once you season them it’s time to fire up the grill.
