How long do you grill Asparagus?

The biggest mistake people make when grilling Asparagus is overcooking. A crispy perfectly cooked stalk only takes a few minutes on a covered grill.

Preheat your grill to 400 degrees F.  While your grill is heating up, prepare the ingredients. Cut the lower 25% of the stalks off to remove the woody hard section. Then toss the stalks with olive oil and salt. Place on the hot grill for 4 minutes then rotate and grill for another 4 minutes. If you buy slender stalks then reduce the total cook time from 8 minutes to 6 minutes.

Make sure when you place them on the grill that all the stalks are evenly touching the grill grates. A big mistake when grilling this vegetable is crowding the grill with too many pieces which will cause undercooking of some while overcooking of others.

The other mistake that is made when grilling this spring time treat is cooking too long. You don’t want them completely cooked when they are taken off the grill because they will continue to cook when plated. When laying in a bunch on a serving plate the cooking process will continue which could cause mushy Asparagus.
