When most people think of the word wings, in reference to food, they automatically think chicken wings. That’s ok! I’m not going to get upset at someone that enjoy eating chicken wings. However, turkey wings are also fantastic and are certainly an underutilized appetizer. Any way you decide to prepare them, turkey wings are fantastic! For this turkey wing recipe, I decided to grill the turkey wings and then combine them with garlic, butter, and Parmesan Cheese.
This grilled garlic parmesan turkey wings recipe is fairly simple and easy to prepare. It is a
How do you make garlic paste?
The only preparation for this wing recipe really only requires garlic cloves to be made into a paste. You could also go out and buy garlic paste which will save even more time. I’m a big fan of fresh garlic though and it will only take a few minutes. All you need is a knife, olive oil, and a little kosher salt. Simply chop the 3 cloves of garlic and then combine it with the two tablespoons of oil anda sprinkle of kosher salt. After combining, slide the side of your knife back and forth over the garlic. Press the tip of the knife against the garlic and the cutting board. Slide the knife over and over the garlic until the oil and the course salt turn the garlic into a paste.
After the wings are thoroughly cooked, place the wings in the sauce pan and coat them in the delicious garlic butter. Finally, sprinkle grated Parmesan Cheese over them. This creative appetizer will not disappoint.
Grilling Turkey Wings over charcoal
Turkey is fantastic at sucking up the smell of smoke. I prefer to grill Turkey over charcoal compared to a gas grill. You just get a better flavor from the charcoal. Place the Turkey wings away from the direct heat of the charcoal and slowly bring the Turkey up to 165 degrees F. Make sure you check the temp close to the bone near the joint to get an accurate temp reading. It’s better to grill the Turkey Wings on indirect heat so the flavor comes from the smoke and not too much sear from the charcoal briquets.
How long should you grill Turkey Wings?
You want to bring the internal temperature of to 165 degrees F. That should take about 30 minutes. However, depending how close the wings are too the heat and how often you pick up the grill lid, it may take 40 to 45 minutes.
When
Once the wings are up to temp, add the garlic and butter into the cast iron skillet that has been heating up directly over the coals. You don’t want to burn the butter or garlic so only heat the butter up until it melts.
Then combine the wings and butter garlic sauce in a mixing bowl and combine.
Once the Turkey Wings are sauced with garlic and butter add the cheese. I prefer taking a block of Parmesan cheese and grating the cheese over the wings. You will see a big difference in taste if you use a quality Parmesan Cheese.
