Chicken Kabobs have always been a crowd-pleaser. But why settle for an ordinary meal when you can infuse them with an unexpected burst of flavor? This recipe takes the classic kabob and transforms it into a tender inexpensive delight that will bring in the compliments from friends and family.
French Onion Marinade.
The secret to the irresistible flavor of these kabobs lies in the marinade. This recipe takes creamy and zesty Sour Cream with a simple french onion dip packet to tenderize chicken breast and give it a tangy french onion flavor. This marinade choice gives depth of flavor to the tender chicken breasts, making every bite a savory sensation.
Ingredients You’ll Need for French Onion Chicken:
- 3 lbs of boneless, skinless chicken breasts, cut into bite-sized chunks
- 1 cup of Sour Cream
- 1 French Onion Dip Packet
- Salt
Instructions:
- Marinate the Chicken: In a mixing bowl, combine the chicken chunks with the Sour Cream and a packet of French Onion Dip Mix. With a spoon, mix the chicken with the marinade to make sure the chicken is evenly coated. Cover the bowl and let it marinate in the refrigerator for at least 2 hours, but preferably 10 hours which will allow the flavors to come together. I can’t stress enough to give plenty of time to let the sour cream marinade tenderize the chicken breast.
- Prepare the Kabobs: Thread the marinated chicken pieces onto the skewers. If you use wooden skewers, soak them in water for 15 minutes before adding the chicken will help prevent burning on the grill.
- Grill to Perfection: Preheat your grill to 475 degrees F using medium heat. Grill the kabobs over direct heat with the grill lid down for about 10-12 minutes. Turn the kabobs every 5 minutes until the chicken is cooked through and has a nice charred exterior. Remember a nice char not burnt to a crisp. Pay attention to your grill!
- Temp if Chicken: With a meat thermometer, check the internal temperature of the chicken at multiple spots on the kabobs. According to the U.S. Department of Agriculture, chicken is safe to consume at 165 degrees Fahrenheit. Bring the chicken up to that temp and then remove from the grill.
- Serve and Enjoy: Once cooked, transfer the kabobs to a serving platter and finish the dish a pinch of kosher salt.
Why You’ll Love It:
- Irresistible Flavor: With the first bite you’ll notice the tangy flavors of sour cream, but then the onion flavors take over then finished off with a nice balance of salt.
- Easy Prep, Big Impressions: This dish is easy to prepare in the morning. The chicken can sit all day in the French onion marinade then easily grilled for the perfect weeknight meal or taken to a tailgate before the game.
- Inexpensive: With the cost of food going higher, food inflation is a problem for folks. Look for the chicken breast to be put on sale for 1.99 a pound. At that price, the kabobs along with a side dish can feed a family at a reasonable price.
So, if you’re ready to take your kabob game to the next level, give these French Onion Chicken Kabobs a try. Your palate will thank you, and your guests will be begging for your secret recipe!
