This quick super simple dill sauce recipe will bring new life to some of your grilled recipes. The dill sauce can be put on a variety of dishes, can be used for a marinade, or even as a dip. This dill sauce recipe only has a few ingredients, however if quality ingredients are used the sauce is a healthy addition to a variety of dishes.

How do you mash garlic?

The first step is taking fresh garlic and mashing it into a paste. Mashing the garlic into a paste will give you a much better garlicky taste compared to using garlic powder or premade garlic bits. The garlic will also be easier to combine with the sauce. It’s a simple technique that will only take a few minutes and the garlic can be used in a variety of your dishes not just this sauce.

To make the paste start chopping two cloves of garlic and drizzle a little olive oil and course kosher salt onto a cutting board.

Press down with your knife against the garlic mixture. Have the knife at a slight angle and not flat against the cutting board. Let the course kosher salt help turn the garlic clove into a nice paste. By pressing the tip of the knife against the garlic  and continuously sliding over the garlic against the cutting board it will begin to turn into a paste.

Now that you have garlic paste, combine it with the other ingredients because the difference between a good and great yogurt dill sauce is the fresh garlic taste!

How do you prepare dill sauce?

Take the garlic paste and combine it with the other ingredients. All you will need is the juice of one lemon, 1/2 teaspoon of dried or fresh chopped dill, yogurt and salt to taste. One thing to note regarding the yogurt. I like using fresh from the farm yogurt. It has a nice rich flavor to help counter the tart lemon. You need to have that balance with this sauce. If you don’t have access to farm fresh yogurt you can supplement unsweetened Greek yogurt.

The great thing about cooking is you can tweak recipes to your taste preferences. After you combine everything, if you want it a little richer, add a little olive oil. If you prefer a little spice, add some fresh cracked black pepper.

After the sauce is complete, put the dill sauce into the refrigerator overnight. When you’re ready to use the sauce give it a quick stir because the sauce could begin to separate after sitting all night in the refrigerator.
